January’s Meetup: Dashes, Concise Copy, and Improv! January 19th at 6pm
This month’s meeting will feature a CopyChat by Melissa Balkon on proper dash usage, an exercise in simplifying your copy by James Archer, and a special guest presentation by Jeff Moriarty on Improv Writing.
Improv is a form of controlled chaos, and an excellent way to tap into spontaneity and creativity. This talk by Jeff will be an improvisational look at the techniques, games, and approaches of improv and how they can help in your writing.
So come on out January 19th at 6pm to Terralever for a night of copywriting madness! As always, please be sure to bring a pen, paper, an open mind, and an appetite (for both knowledge and food, of course.)
Thanks for your presentation last night, Jeff. Informative, entertaining, relevant and (dare I say?) fun. No small feat to draw a roomful of (mostly) introverted writers out of our shells.
Thanks also for including the book links. My husband is a huge Joseph Campbell fan (we own the complete “Power of Myth” lecture series. Alas, on VHS.).
P.S. Based on my previous comment, perhaps we need a future CopyChat entitled “Avoiding Overuse of Parentheticals.”

Copywriting Veteran, DD Kullman, will be February’s Guest Speaker »

Thank you SO much for inviting me to speak, and I hope it was of value. You have a fantastic, fluid group forming and I hope to be able to attend in the future.
Some of the material I mentioned:
Hero with a Thousand Faces: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hero_with_a_Thousand_Faces
The Writer’s Journey (the book Disney developed for storytelling, based on Thousand Faces): http://www.amazon.com/Writers-Journey-Mythic-Structure-3rd/dp/193290736X/
Impro: http://www.amazon.com/Impro-Improvisation-Theatre-Keith-Johnstone/dp/0878301178/
And I’m happy to talk with anyone about more Improv topics, including great places for classes.
Cheers!
